Tres Outlaws Boot Company wins award at the 2003 Western Design Conference.

The Tres Outlaws Boot Company, under the guidance of Scott Wayne Emmerich and Jerry Black, won an award at the 2003 Western Design Conference held September 23-27 in Cody, Wyoming. The El Paso-based company was one of 70 of the nation's top western furniture and accessory companies accepted into the exhibition through a strict jury process.

The Tres Outlaws Boot Company, with its collection of fully hand-crafted artistic creations, won the Best Artist in Fashion award. Emmerich, the primary designer, explains:

"A custom made cowboy boot can and should be a unique expression of the individual. In fact, I believe the wearing of a cowboy boot is a festive occasion-or should be. It becomes one when the boot goes on your foot. My job is to make that boot the perfect compliment to the wearer."

Tres Outlaws Boots, known for their pointed toes and exquisite detail, are worn by an increasingly long list of celebrities.

"We recently created for Arnold [Schwarzenegger] a museum-quality pair with inlays of sterling silver on some of the finest hand tooling ever created. He was very involved in the design, which was stunning."

Currently in its 11th year, the Western Design Conference has evolved into the preeminent gathering of craftspeople, fashion designers and western design aficionados in the world. Events include a formal, gallery-style exhibition, high-energy fashion show, and educational seminars featuring respected speakers in the areas of architecture and interior design.

Held in conjunction with the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center's Patrons' Ball, the Western Design Conference events are exciting components of Cody's weeklong "Celebration of the Arts."
